Fried Green Tomatoes......
             and so much more!

Marilyn Kluger grew up in rural southern Indiana in the early 1930's. Most of that growing up took place in the country kitchens of her mother and her grandparents. The kitchen was the center of the house - a place to share the laughter and tears, the hopes and dreams of their lives - and it was where Mrs. Kluger watched and later helped her mother and grandmother cook, bake, and preserve. In  The Midwestern Country Cookbook, she shares with us scores of those wonderful family recipes for pies, biscuits, cakes, breads, and gravies - good down-home country cooking from past generations.

This book is no ordinary cookbook. Here Kluger spins delightful stories of country Christmases, Thanksgivings, and harvesting parties.

  • The pages of the Midwestern Country Cookbook contain stories and recipes for lovers of Americana and authentic American cooking. Among the many mouth-watering, down-home recipes are:

Applesauce  Spice Cake
Chicken Pot Pie
Roast Goose
Peach Upside-Down Cake
Fried Green Tomatoes
Mother's Wild Persimmon Pudding
Vegetable Soup
Blackberry Pie
Grandma's Stuffed Mangos
German Egg Dumplings
Bread and Butter Pickles

"Kluger, a hobbyist forager, stalks wild foods with a passion. Her odyssey is compelling. One discovery leads to another, mayapples and grapes, lambs quarters (lettuce with a flavor similar to spinach) and dandelions greens, pawpaws, black walnuts, elderberries, hickory nuts, and so on. For the brave palate and curious cook, people like Kluger influence what we see on restaurant menus."--Chicago Tribune

"Enticingly written, charmingly illustrated, and pleasant reading."
-- The Washington Post

"A book as rich as a Christmas pudding to be dipped into and savored from one season to the next."
-- St. Louis Dispatch

  •   Wild foods lend new sparkle to familiar dishes, and in this classic cookbook, Marilyn Kluger offers a feast for both gourmet cooks and nature lovers. Innovative recipes like Rainbow Trout with Sorrel Butter, Maple Barbecue Spareribs, and Chanterelles and Eggplant Casserole are complemented by traditional American recipes such as Blackberry Jam Cake, Kentucky Stack Cake, and Blueberry Buckle.

Creative chefs and adventuresome home cooks are discovering new ways to use flowers and wild foods in cooking. With the reprinting of The Wild Flavor, Marilyn Kluger is in the vanguard of the rediscovery of the joys of cooking with nature's wild bounty.

Marilyn will personally autograph each book by request according to directions.
